McFarland Scores 20 but York Falls to St. Joseph’s

BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, N.Y.— York College senior Ishonda McFarland netted a game-high 20 points and grabbed ten rebounds but it would not be enough as the Cardinals fell to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) 81-57 on Saturday evening.

St. Joseph's never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early 19-8 lead in the first six minutes of play.  The Lady Bears would lead by as many as 15 points before York closed the gap to 11 (41-30) by halftime.

But the second-half would be all St. Joseph's as the Lady Bears overwhelmed York with a 50 percent shooting (17-of-34),  ballooning their advantage to over 30 in less than six minutes.

St. Joseph's finished with a season-best 43 percent (31-of-72) shooting and doled out 20 assists, 10 different Lady Bears recording a helper.

For York, Junior Shadaeya Green added 14 points, four steals and two assists coming off the bench. Junior Danielle Dunn contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.

Samantha Retas shared team-high honors with Janine Doran, netting 14 points each for the Lady Bears. Retas pulled down a game-high-tying 10 rebounds and had three steals.  Doran fell one rebound shy of a double-double, handed out three assists and had two thefts.

York drops to 0-6 with the loss, while St. Joseph's improves to 2-3.  The Cardinals will visit Brooklyn College on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
